This thesis analyses the different aspects of innovation in the retail sector, focusing on format innovation issue. Retail food formats are nowadays facing a new trend, in which the concept of closeness and the relational aspects are gaining importance and applied to convenience stores. These topics have been investigated conducting interviews with some managers of Nordiconad Soc. Coop, which belongs to the Italian group Conad, and which is going to experiment this new format in the next years. As a result, the common idea between managers is that this innovation will have positive impact on relationships with costumers and on company's profitability, in order to face Discount's rise.

Abstract
