The PhD thesis analyses the history of the City Archive of Capua between the 15th and 18th centuries, and the development of written culture and practices related to the management and retrieval of information through the creation of specific tools such as inventories, repertoires and access keys. Through the examination and study of the medieval and early modern memories of the City Archive, kept at the Museo Provinciale Campano of Capua, light has been shed on the process of maturation of “sensibilità archivistica” in one of the most important and well-documented cities in southern Italy. Studied from this perspective, the city archive appears not only as a place for conservation, but also a tool for the elaboration of identity memory.
