Literature within the Sport for Development (SFD) paradigm investigates how sport can generate positive social outcomes by moving beyond the functionalist model of the “great sport myth”. Within this theoretical framework, this research is a single case study. Adopting an ecological-systemic perspective typical of community psychology, it focuses on a specific neighborhood in the city of Bergamo as the object/subject of analysis. The research project aims to integrate community analysis, the exploration of the link between sport and community capacity (CC), and the definition of applied tools to identify the potential of sport in community capacity building processes (CCB). It offers analytical, methodological, and applied contributions to the field. In detail, the first phase consists of a community analysis of Celadina’s neighborhood using a mixed-methods research design. It integrates quantitative data with qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with community gatekeepers and community sports stakeholders (N=10). Through Framework Analysis (FA), community profiling is performed to create an exploratory and strategic map of the neighborhood's characteristics, thematic clusters, strengths, weaknesses and opportunities. Regarding the sports ecosystem, findings show that it mirrors the neighborhood's psychosocial dynamics; however, it is recognized as a potential strategic gateway for future community development processes. The situated knowledge developed during the community analysis allows the second phase to explore the link between local sports practices (community sports organizations, elite sports clubs and grassroots sports organizations) and the theoretical construct of CC applied to sport, delineating its community sports profile. Methodologically, a secondary analysis (SAQD) is conducted on the residual sports themes that fell outside the community profiles during the first phase of research. The data analysis uses the dimensions of CC applied to sport as a thematic framework (codebook). Consistent with the SFD paradigm, results show that a lack of intentionality limits the sports ecosystem's ability to promote CCB strategies. Moreover, the study highlights the methodological and strategic relevance of the community sports profile. This tool addresses the literature's need to operationalize the CC-sport link. It serves as a place-based instrument that combines analytical-descriptive features with policy-oriented potential. Finally, the researcher’s insider/outsider positioning is critically discussed, along with the study's limitations, operational prospects for local policymaking, and future research trajectories.

Abstract
Finally, the researcher’s insider/outsider positioning is critically discussed, along with the study's limitations, operational prospects for local policymaking, and future research trajectories.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
