This dissertation contributes to recent debates on the relationship between literature and spatiality by investigating how spatial configurations shape both the organization and the interpretation of narrative texts. The analysis focuses on sixteenth-century Italian novellas, approached through a methodology that combines semiotics, narratology, and literary geography. Such a perspective, we argue, highlights both the symbolic and the narrative implications of space in two mid-sixteenth-century collections: Antonfrancesco Grazzini’s Le Cene and Giovan Francesco Straparola’s Le Piacevoli Notti. In conclusion, the study proposes an integrated methodological framework that brings together the topological, perceptual-figurative, and axiological dimensions of narrative space. Rather than a static background, spatiality emerges as a dynamic principle, with crucial implications for plot structure, character development, and the evolution of narrative genres.
