The ”twintransition”concepthasrecentlybeenconceptualizedbyEuropeanstrategiesand identified asacombinationoftwoimportantprocesses:thedigitaltransitionandtheecological (or green)transition.Thisresearchprojectaimsatstudyingtheevolutionofthiscomplexand challenging paradigmshift-whichseemstobeunclearinliteratureintermsofsimultaneous realization -bytestingthesynergyoftheoutcomesofbothtransitionsandassessingwhether theycouldcontributetotheaccelerationoftheEuropean’seconomicdevelopment. Specifically,thisprojectaimstoidentifyanoveldefinitionoftwintransition,investigatethe academic evolutionofthistopicwithaSystematicBibliometricLiteratureReviewanalysis (SBLR), andexaminetheenvironmentalsustainabilitypathwaysthroughthedetectionof differentterritorialdriversandsectoralclusters.Inparticular,twospecificdrivers,i.e.In- formation andCommunicationtechnologies(ICTs)andForeignDirectInvestments(FDIs), are analyzedascatalystsforbothtransitions,byusingpaneldatatechniquesandaMeta- RegressionAnalysis(MRA)methodology,respectively.Theresultscontributetotheongoing academic literature,exploringthemitigationtechniquesofdifferentreboundeffects(suchas pollution, high-energyconsumption,e-wasteandrareearthextractionassociatedwithdigital technologies), investigatingtransition’smechanismsanddeterminingeconomic,institutional and governmentaldriversthatmayacceleratethetwintransitionpathway. Finally,asetofpolicyimplicationsisidentified,basedalsoonatargetedanalysisemploying Machine Learning(ML)withtextminingtechniquestoanalyze28recentpolicydocuments that reflectboththeecologicalanddigitalperspectives,therebyinfluencingthejointrealization of the“tripletransition”(green,digitalandjusttransitions).
