This thesis investigates the application of eco-compatible technologies and Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for managing and mitigating environmental pressures in urban areas, with a particular focus on the Metropolitan City of Bari. The general objective is to explore the role of NBS in the ecological regeneration of cities and in the sustainable management of environmental matrices, considering the climatic and territorial characteristics typical of the Mediterranean context. The study analyses the state of the art of green technologies for stormwater management, the reduction of diffuse pollution, and the remediation of contaminated soils, highlighting their potential as integrated tools for sustainable urban planning. The experimental section includes laboratory and pilot-scale activities aimed at evaluating the efficiency of vegetated systems and locally sourced organic substrates in water purification and in improving the physical and biological properties of soils. The thesis also explore the potential reuse of plant residues and biomass waste within a circular economy perspective, reducing the environmental footprint of treatment processes. The results provide useful insights for defining operational strategies to integrate NBS into Mediterranean urban contexts, contributing to the scientific understanding of their functioning and of the factors influencing their effectiveness. In perspective, this work aims to support the design of more resilient, ecologically integrated cities aligned with the principles of the green transition.

Abstract
In perspective, this work aims to support the design of more resilient, ecologically integrated cities aligned with the principles of the green transition.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
