This thesis explores the everyday life of a wine resort in the Chianti Classico region. The analysis focuses on the tourist consumption experiences linked to wine production, such as cooking classes, wine tastings and wine tours. Focusing on the professions involved in all these experiences – guides, handymen, housekeepers, cooks, and cleaners – the research also analyzes how they inhabit this particular terroir in their ordinary life. Known all over the world for its wine production and enhanced through an idealized rural past and a certain idea of 'tradition', deployed as elements of cultural heritage within promotional narratives, Chianti Classico is characterized by seasonal tourist flows and distinctive forms of dwelling. This tourism valorisation has concrete consequences on the lives of residents and workers. The study focuses on them and analyzes the multiple tactics they employ to inhabit this portion of rural space, in order to regain their own place, within multiple power relationships. The wine resort was an interesting ethnographic site for observing the transformations that operate in contemporary countrysides, shaped by processes of rural globalization and gentrification.
