This thesis studies concavity properties of positive solutions to Lane–Emden problems on geodesically convex domains of the sphere 𝕊². The main focus is the power-concavity of such solutions. For uniformly geodesically convex smooth domains, we prove that u⁽¹⁻ᵖ⁾ᐟ² is strictly concave for 0 ≤ p < 1 and strictly convex for 1 < p ≤ 3. Together with the strict logconcavity of the positive first Dirichlet eigenfunction for p = 1, due to Lee–Wang, this implies that, for 0 ≤ p ≤ 3, solutions have strictly geodesically convex superlevel sets and a unique nondegenerate maximum. In the sublinear case, we extended the strict concavity result to geodesically convex domains of 𝕊² with C²˒ᵞ boundary. For the torsion problem, we give an independent proof that √u is strictly concave, inspired by Makar–Limanov’s P-function method. Finally, we construct convex domains in ℝ² and geodesically convex domains in 𝕊² where the corresponding positive first Dirichlet eigenfunctions, normalized so that they have maximum 1, fail to satisfy the ½-logconcavity property.

Abstract
Finally, we construct convex domains in ℝ² and geodesically convex domains in 𝕊² where the corresponding positive first Dirichlet eigenfunctions, normalized so that they have maximum 1, fail to satisfy the ½-logconcavity property.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
