Sixteenth-century literary production dedicated to Charles V of Habsburg (1500-1558) is extensive and varied in terms of genres, languages, and contexts, but the specific characteristics of the texts printed in Naples in the first half of the sixteenth century – often attributable to fast-paced, occasional consumer literature – have not yet been systematically investigated. This thesis aims to fill this gap by offering a survey of instant books and verse pamphlets relating to the sovereign or events connected with him published in Naples between 1516 and 1559, reconstructing their chronology, formal characteristics, and main encomiastic strategies. This first section is accompanied by a case study dedicated to Girolamo Borgia, a humanist active between the Aragonese period and the Spanish Viceroyalty, with the aim of analyzing the construction of the imperial image in his work. The focus is particularly on Monarchia (1525), Africana Caesaris victoria (1535), and Africanus Caroli triumphus (1536), examined from a material and content point of view and contextualized in their editorial and genre context. The study integrates historical-literary and historiographical tools with a philological approach, culminating in the preparation of critical editions with service translations of the three works.
