Through a combination of archival research and film analysis, the thesis advances the understanding of nonfiction animation. Indeed, after describing the different ways in which such medium can be exploited in order to recount the real, are taken into account the theory and history of these typologies of audiovisual works, so as to show how they should both be reassessed. The thesis then focuses on describing the evolutions underwent throughout time by this kind of animations, illustrating which traits have remained unaltered and which have undergone a transformation as well as providing an explanation of why such changes have occurred precisely in the periods in question.
