The thesis aims to propose an analysis of the profane and vernacular theater of 15th century, starting from a comprehensive examination of the courts in which the dramatic representations were promoted and written. We considered the cities that, in the second half of the 15th century, entrust to the theater a significant and celebratory role of its cultural policy, i.e. Ferrara, Milan, Mantua, Urbino and Naples. We have tried to provide - compared to a setting that has often privileged the only Northern Italy courts - an extensive overview; this approach is useful to understand the italian theater as a whole phenomenon. The thesis is divided into three sections (Geografia e storia; Opere; Per un’analisi della ricezione); each section is preceded by an introduction that clarifies objectives, content, tools and methodologies. The chapters are followed by a conclusion, which summarizes the results.
