In the biography of Max Ascoli, The research is focused on his cultural training, from the high school attendance in Ferrara through the academic years spent in Rome, until the beginning of his academic career and the moving the United States. The analysis is conducted on the importance of his cultural and religious background, and the influence of the hebraic tradition. The reasons and the projects related to the decision to move to the States are studied paying attention to his difficult relationship with fascism. The author shows how Fascism itself became the main subject of research of Ascoli, and how the new tools of reasearch offered by the american cultural ennviroment of the time permitted to Ascoli a deep insight in the reasons of fascist success.
