The aim of this study is, as the title of the research makes clear, the ownership issue in the territories of Saint Peter, implying with this expression the legal discussion about the notion of property in its two different perspectives: the private property and the collective property. In terms of time, the study runs from the 18th century – period in which the owner issue was discussed across Europe – to the present day. In terms of geographical location, the research focuses on the territories of Saint Peter whose borders coincide approximately with those of central Italy. The work will present, as the sub-title suggests, a constantly evolving itinerary in understanding of the ownership issue. The end point of this itinerary will be the recovery of the community dimension in the relationship with the environment as an alternative to private property.
