This work analyze the representation of the enemy in Japanese war literature. Its sources are war memoirs from the first Sino-Japanese war (1894-95), the Russo-Japanese war (1904-1905), the Siberian intervention (1918-1922) and the second Sino-Japanese war (1937-1945). The analysis focuses on aspects such national identity, gender, religion and language.
