My elaborate consists of two main sections, as it presents two distinct research lines pursued in different laboratories: - The first part – Section A – is focused on the synthesis and the characterization of new fluorescent organic small molecules, obtained by using a straightforward diversity-oriented strategy that combines the convenient multicomponent approach with synthetically elegant metal-catalyzed domino transformations; - The second part – Section B – deals with the valorisation of biomass via metal-catalyzed regioselective functionalization, with the aim of accessing novel high-added value organic species starting from natural feedstocks and renewable sources, and by exploiting the advantages of the C-H bonds activation.
